Interlibrary Loan Services
Interlibrary Loan at the Professional Center Library provides access to materials not located within the Wake Forest University library system. Requests may be made by submitting an Interlibrary Loan Request Form. The Professional Center Library only accepts electronic requests.
Who may request an Interlibrary loan?
This service is available to current faculty, staff and students of the Wake Forest University School of Law. Other members of the Wake Forest community may request materials through the Interlibrary Loan Department of the Z. Smith Reynolds Library on the Reynolda Campus or the Document Delivery Services of the Coy C. Carpenter Library at the School of Medicine on the Bowman Gray Campus.
How much will it cost?
Interlibrary Loan service is provided free of charge as long as the request is not unreasonably costly to the Library. You are responsible for any overdue, lost or damaged book fines assessed by the lending library.
How long will it take?
There is no way to know how long it will take to receive a requested item. A few days to a month may be required to obtain materials. You can check the status of your request by contacting an Interlibrary Loan assistant at (336) 758-4521. Once we receive the item, we will notify you by email or telephone.
How do I request an item?
Before you submit a request, you must check all the Wake Forest library online catalogs to see if the item is owned by a Wake Forest Library. If the item is an article, also search appropriate online databases (such as Lexis, Westlaw and Find a Journal) for availability.
- Professional Center Library online catalog
- Z. Smith Reynolds Library online catalog
- Coy C. Carpenter Library online catalog
- Find a Journal (available from Z.Smith Reynolds Library, lists holdings of all 3 libraries)
Where do I pick up and return an item?
Some materials may be delivered to you electronically. All other materials obtained through Interlibrary Loan are to be picked up and returned at the Professional Center Library Service Desk.
Loan periods and renewals
The lending institution sets the loan period and other conditions. Most libraries allow us to keep books for about three weeks. Items are due on the date written on the book strap; however if the lending library recalls an item, it must be returned immediately to the Professional Center Library. Renewals may be requested before the due date by contacting an Interlibrary Loan assistant at (336) 758-4520.
Materials difficult to obtain
Not all materials requested can be obtained. Examples of materials other institutions may not want to lend are:
- Audio/visual materials
- Reference materials
- Complete issues of current or bound journals
- Archival materials (manuscripts, papers, etc.)
- Dissertations and theses
- Some government documents
If your request cannot be fulfilled, contact a reference librarian at the Professional Center Library Service Desk for alternatives in obtaining needed materials.
